Buy a G-Shock if the watch will take knocks: site work, riding, the gym, travel, or if you have broken a watch before. Buy an Edifice if you wear formal or smart-casual clothes most days and want a metal watch that looks the part in a meeting.
How they actually differ
Case and weight
Almost every G-Shock we stock uses a resin case and strap. That is what absorbs impact, and it keeps the watch light despite the size. Edifice is stainless steel, 74 of our 91 references on a steel bracelet and 16 on leather. Steel looks better under a sleeve; resin survives being dropped.
Water resistance
Every G-Shock in our range is rated to 200 metres. Every Edifice is rated to 100 metres. Both are far beyond what daily life demands, but 200 metres means you can swim in a G-Shock without a second thought.
Reading the time
G-Shock dials are built around digital displays with alarms, stopwatch, calendar and backlight as standard, and several newer references add a smartphone link that sets the time for you. Edifice is analogue with chronograph sub-dials, date windows and world time on some models.
Price
G-Shock runs Rs 31,700 to Rs 91,125 across 37 models. Edifice runs Rs 31,500 to Rs 117,000 across 91 models. They start in the same place; Edifice goes further at the top because of solar movements and sapphire glass.
Which lasts longer?
A G-Shock will survive more physical abuse, comfortably. But a resin strap perishes eventually, particularly in Karachi heat, and will need replacing after a few years. An Edifice bracelet lasts effectively forever and can be cleaned. Neither is fragile.
If you can only own one watch
For most buyers in Pakistan, an Edifice on a steel bracelet is the more versatile single watch: it works at a wedding and at the office, and the 100-metre rating covers everything short of diving. Choose G-Shock instead if your work is physical, or if you want a watch you genuinely never have to think about.
