First copies of popular Casio models are common in Pakistan, and the good ones are convincing in a photograph. Almost all of them fall apart under a few simple checks that take under a minute. Here is what to look at before you pay.
1. Check the price first
This catches most fakes on its own. A genuine Casio has a fixed retail price, and no legitimate seller is 60% below it. If a model that sells everywhere for Rs 13,000 is being offered at Rs 4,000, it is not a bargain and it is not old stock. 2. Read the model number on the case back
Every genuine Casio has its model number engraved on the case back, not printed. It must match the box and the warranty card exactly, character for character. Fakes frequently get one character wrong, or the engraving is shallow and uneven. Run a fingernail over it: real engraving has depth.
3. Look closely at the printing on the dial
Casio dial printing is sharp at the edges even under a phone camera zoom. On copies the lettering is slightly thick, slightly blurred, or unevenly spaced. Check the word CASIO and any range name such as EDIFICE or G-SHOCK. This is the single most reliable visual tell.
4. Check the second hand on analogue models
On a genuine quartz Casio the second hand lands exactly on each marker. On many fakes it stops slightly short or slightly past. Watch it for fifteen seconds.
5. Weight and finish
A steel Casio feels dense. Copies often use lighter alloy and feel hollow. Run a finger along the bracelet edges: genuine links are smoothly finished, fakes frequently have sharp or rough edges that catch.
6. The backlight and functions
On digital models press the light button. Genuine Casio illumination is even across the display. Copies are often patchy, dim, or lit from one corner. Then test the alarm and stopwatch: on fakes these are frequently non-functional or behave oddly.
7. Ask about the warranty

What to do if you already bought one
Take it to an authorised service centre and ask them to check the model number and movement. If it is a copy, a legitimate seller will refund it. If they refuse, that is worth knowing before you buy from them again.
